PARA 101 - Introduction to Paralegal Studies
3 Credit Hours
An entry-level, comprehensive survey of the paralegal profession. Covers the history and development of legal assistants, legal ethics, professional responsibility, and the organization and operation of law offices. Introduces substantive areas of law-including civil litigation, criminal law, contract law, torts, real estate, and family law- along with essential paralegal skills such as legal research, legal writing, client communication, and technology in legal practice. Emphasis on the paralegal’s role under attorney supervision and the importance of confidentiality, ethical behavior, and effective teamwork.
