COSM 110 - Body Systems and Diseases

4 Credit Hours

Provides students with a foundational understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and the interrelationship between body systems as they pertain to cosmetology. Using Milady Standard Cosmetology, 14th Edition, this course explores how body structures and functions influence the health, appearance, and care of the skin, hair, nails, and scalp. Emphasis is placed on recognizing normal and abnormal conditions to promote client safety, proper sanitation, and professional care practices. Students will study general anatomy and physiology to understand how body systems support healthy skin, hair, and nails. The course examines the structure, growth, and functions of the skin, hair, and nails, as well as common disorders and diseases that may affect these areas. Through theory and applied learning, students develop the knowledge needed to identify contraindications to services and to provide safe, effective treatments within the cosmetologist’s scope of practice.

Pre-requisite(s): enrollment in Cosmetology, Nail Technician or Esthetician Program.
