MLTN 212L - Introduction to the Clinical Laboratory Lab 1 Credit Hours
Students will perform various procedures in the skill of phlebotomy, including capillary sticks, syringe venipuncture, evacuated tube system venipuncture and winged infusion set venipuncture. Specimen collection techniques for proper collection of blood cultures, coagulation specimens, urinalysis and stool specimens will be covered. The students will also be instructed on proper processing of all specimens received in the laboratory. Students will also be introduced to various lab equipment and their use, including the microscope. Entry-level competency must be achieved and demonstrated with all procedures for successful completion of the course.
Pre-requisite(s): Admission to Medical Laboratory Technician program.
