The Associate of Science Degree (AS) in Criminal Justice Law Enforcement program is to prepare students for entry-level careers in the criminal justice field by providing a comprehensive education grounded in legal principles, ethical practices, and practical skills. Through a curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking, communication, cultural awareness, and community engagement, the program equips graduates to serve and protect with integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to justice. Our goal is to foster responsible, informed, and capable individuals who are prepared to meet the evolving demands of law enforcement and the broader criminal justice system.
Graduates from New River typically obtain employment or continue to a four-year school. We have articulation agreements with Bluefield State University, Glenville State University, West Virginia Institute of Technology, and West Virginia State University, which means that students may obtain their first two years of a four-year degree at New River CTC, then continue (transfer) to the four-year school for the final two years. This 2+2 approach to obtaining a 4-year degree is typically more cost-effective for students.
