MLTN 210 - Introduction to Clinical Laboratory 2 Credit Hours
This is a 2-hour course that co-requisites with the laboratory portion (MLTN 212L ). This course introduces the student to the functions of the clinical laboratory and duties of the medical laboratory technician (MLT). This course covers clinical laboratory safety issues, regulatory and certification agencies, infection control policies and laboratory safety, medical-legal issues, and professional and ethical responsibilities. The student will study general medical terminology, quality assurance concepts and professional standards. The major portion of this course is devoted to proper phlebotomy, specimen processing theory and techniques, pre-analytical and patient safety issues.
Pre-requisite(s): Admission to Medical Laboratory Technician program. Co-requisite(s): MLTN 212L
