The Certificate of Applied Science (CAS) program in Hair Styling is a focused, career-oriented program in the field of salon management and cosmetology. The program provides the student with the knowledge and skills necessary for an entry-level career in the cosmetology field. This program exceeds the 1800 clock hours required by the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Barbers and Licensing or certification of Cosmetologists Board. Exams are independent of graduation requirements.
The job outlook is good for Hair Stylist. Increasing population, incomes, and demand for Hair Styling services will stimulate job growth. In addition, numerous job openings will stem from rapid turnover in salons and the large size of the occupation. The rapid growth of nail salons and full-service spas will generate numerous job openings for Hair Stylist skilled in hair, skin, and nails.
Students will not be eligible to begin the fourth semester of the program unless all required courses for the previous semesters have been completed. Upon completion of the program, the student will be eligible to sit for the examination administered by the Board provided all eligibility requirements are met.
