The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree
program in Paraprofessional Education- developed in cooperation with other community and technical colleges in West Virginia-is designed to meet the needs of public-school aides who wish to upgrade skill levels or who wish to seek permanent paraprofessional certification (as defined in WV Code 126-136-25).

They provide instructional and clerical support for teachers in elementary, middle, and high school settings. Students planning to transfer to a four-year Teacher Education degree should consult with the Elementary Education faculty advisor regarding additional requirements.
Students enrolling in this program are subject to background and/or drug screening. See New River Community and Technical College Procedure 41 and 44 at www.newriver.edu under Faculty and Staff - Human Resources - New River Procedures for more information.
