The Certificate of Applied Science (CAS) program in Paraprofessional Education- developed in cooperation with other community and technical colleges in West Virginia-is designed to meet the needs of public-school aides who wish to upgrade skill levels, but who do not wish to complete the associate degree program in Paraprofessional Education. In the classroom, education paraprofessionals facilitate educational instruction and provide direct or indirect supervision of students under the direction of a classroom teacher. They also provide instructional and clerical support for teachers in elementary, middle, and high school settings.
Students enrolling in this program are subject to background and/or drug screening. See New River Community and Technical College Procedure 41 and 44 at www.newriver.edu under Faculty and Staff - Human Resources - New River Procedures for more
