Associate Degree Nursing LPN or Paramedic, AAS

The Associate of Applied Science in Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) to ADN or Paramedic to ADN Program is an intensive twelve-month (3 semesters) Concept-Based, hybrid associate degree program designed to prepare the student to practice as a Registered Nurse in a variety of healthcare settings. Each student admitted to the program must be a Licensed Practical Nurse or Paramedic with an active certification and must maintain that certification throughout the program. The curriculum provides students with classroom and clinical/lab experiences in Medical-Surgical Nursing, Maternal-Child Nursing, Geriatrics, and Mental Health Nursing in various acute care, critical care, extended care, and outpatient facilities/agencies. The program is also designed for career laddering, awarding appropriate transfer credit allowing for a seamless transfer into more advanced nursing programs of study. Upon completing the LPN to A D N o r Paramedic to ADN Program, graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN). Successful completion of this examination is required for licensure and practice.

Program Application and Admission

Admission to the LPN to ADN or Paramedic to ADN program is dependent upon successful completion of the following requirements:

Meet general admission requirements for New River Community and Technical College.

  • English Proficiency
  • 2.5 GPA from high school, LPN, or Paramedic courses □ Submission of official high school, GED or TASC, any college and LPN or Paramedic program transcripts
  • Completion of pre-requisite and required courses with a minimum grade of C.
  • Completion of the LPN to ADN or Paramedic to ADN Program Application
  • Completion of the ATI-TEAS Pre-Admission- Examination within established standards. Submission of a completed Medical History and Physical Examination, including documentation of all required immunizations and laboratory tests.
  • Negative Drug Screen
  • Acceptable Criminal Background Check.
