The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Surgical Technology prepares individuals to work, under the supervision of surgeons and surgical nurses, to prepare and maintain sterile field perioperatively, aseptic technique, instrumentation (identification, use and sterilization of various instruments used in surgery); ethical and legal issues within allied health professions various specialties of surgery (general, orthopedic, robotic assisted, laparoscopic, and other specialties), surgical patient care (positioning, transferring to OR table, surgical skin preparation), perioperative pharmacology and basic anesthesia knowledge, and professionalism in the workplace
